What happened to the lakers beating the Bulls record of 72-10?
Right now they stand at 46-18. From every direction, sportswriters, espn, the experts on Y/A, etc., all I kept hearing before the season was that they were going to break the Bulls record and were 'on paper' one of the greatest teams of all time. Even if they continue the rest of the season at their current win percentage of 71.9 ( which they won't, most likely will dip) they are still on pace to lose 23 games. While still good, and I'm sure the NETS would be happy with that, what happened to this team that was soooooo good that it was predicted to be on hallowed ground at the end of the season?
What do you think their record will be at the end of the season? And do you think they will make it out of the first round of the playoffs?
so francisco the lakers are going to play 87 games? you MUST BE a lakers fan!

Kobe is giving us the aboslute worst example of a leader ever. Seriously, I've never seen a player surrounded by so much talent, do so little with it.
This team would threaten the Bulls record if Kobe would spread the ball around and got in rythm with is teammates. Instead, everytime Kobe feels threatened, or plays on national televsion, he's taking 30+ shots to pad his stats. He's barely even making 40% of his shots lately.

Maybe you haven't heard, but apparently Kobe suffered from a catastrophic finger injury this season. For whatever reason the media and the Lakers organization has been very tight lipped on the matter. It's very hush-hush. Anyway, if Kobe would have had the full use of that finger there is little doubt in my mind the Lakers would be making a run at an 80 win season. It's a shame such a little finger could have such a huge impact on the Lakers season. The '96 Bulls really dodged a bullet.
It was pretty funny hearing the Lakers faithful talking about breaking the Bulls record. Funny as well as predicatable. They actually won 67 last year which is pretty impressive. I suppose with the addition of Artest it wasn't completely absurd to think they could improve on that number. I don't think many figured they would actually get worse.
Think about it, they have Kobe Bryant who is a pretty good player. Then you throw in Artest, who is a beast on defense and a former DPOY. They have Bynum who has managed to stay relatively healthy and is one of the better centers in the league. They also have an all star PF in Gasol and the versatile and talented Odom. That is a team that could possibly win 70 games if they played together as a team. However, despite this wealth of talent you have a supposedly injured Kobe leading the league with 22+ shots/gm. It is insanity. If he shared the ball and they played together as a more cohesive offensive team, they would be blowing teams out and making a push at that record. Kobe has done a pretty good job at hitting game winner this year, but if they played to their potential they wouldn't have to rely on last possession shots to win games. Kobe would be sitting on the bench in the 4th enjoying a 20 point lead.
Oh well, I hope this approach carries over into the postseason. As long as it remains the Kobe show, the Lakers will remain very vulnerable to an early playoff exit. They are still a very good team, but they could be so much better. I predict they will win 58 games.

Dude, unless LeBron, Kobe, Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett and Dwayne Wade were all starters on the same team, no one's going to beat the 95-96 Bulls record... That sounds like something a bandwagoner would say, but I'm no bandwagoner.

Yeah, those "Lakers will win 74 games" and the "Kobe for MVP!" chants have kind of faded. Laker fans are still holding onto their threepeat hopes, but that seems to be fading pretty fast as well.
The NBA is a tough league. Winning a championship is a major accomplishment, something few teams manage to do. Fans should be happy when their team wins it all, embrace it, and not go looking for another dynasty.

they're just uneducated all there is too it.
It's going to be a long time before the Bulls 72-10 record gets broken.
I don't know what would make people think the Lakers would be the best team of all-time though. They aren't even one of the top 5 Lakers teams of all-time

Because Lakers think they are superior to the other basketball teams. I hope losing 3 straight can change their minds. At the end of the season, they will have 62-25
