transmission shifting in and out of overdrive?

I have a 92 dodge 3/4 ton with a cummins and 47RE automatic trans and it shifts erratically in and out of overdrive from time to time. Any idea on a possible solution to help the problem would be appreciated. Thank you.

you need to have someone drop the pan on it and change the fluid and filter and clean out the tcc switch in it when they get stopped up they will cause this too happen, any good transmission shop can service it for you and stop that from happening to it,mine was doing it and i had a a friend of mine do it at his shop and i haven't had any more problems from it as of yet,it cost me around 100 bucks even to get it done, good luck on it.

well first off its very bad for a transmission to shift in and out of overdrive all the time. Our 2001 durango is a 4speed auto with overdrive and in the manual it says to no let it do that, our overdrive turns on at around 40mph. if you are driving around town and stopping and going a lot then you want to turn overdrive off. overdrive is ment to be used on the freeway or if you are going to maintain a speed over 40 for a longer time period.

I would do what it says in your factory owners manual to see what the fluid level is, if its low it might be the problem

The first thing I'd do is check the transmission fluid level and then perhaps change the transmission fluid and filter especially if it's not been changed in quite awhile.

Hope that helps and best of luck.

    It's a dodge. Get a Chevy or GMC :)
