Can Michael Jackson exceed the album sales of the Beatles?
I've been pondering about this for quite a while, if I do say so myself.
Albeit, the Beatles have released more albums and established themselves far earlier, is this prospect a possibility, on Michael Jackon's part? Let us not forget that a posthumous album will be released by the end of 2010, and many have predicted more of MJ's unreleased material will surface in album form in the near future as there are 76 unreleased songs and over 300 albums in his posthumous collection.
At the moment, he is ranked #3 behind the Beatles and Elvis as far as worldwide sales are concerned, specifically at 750m +.
All comments are warmly welcomed.

The Beatles do have the advantage of being ahead of him by 20 years. But, Thriller, still remains the #1 selling album of all time. I'm a die-hard of both but, I don't think Michael would be able to exceed past The Beatles in album sales. The Beatles have more material and honestly, I think more fans as well. The only thing that is really keeping Michael behind in my opinion, are the allegations. Edit: Yes, and like Mari said, it is still possible. But, I find it highly unlikely of him passing The Beatles in album sales. Edit: I also agree with isawmarty. Michael's big seller " Thriller " is really what got him most of his sells. Along with his follow-ups, that didn't get nearly as much sales.

Humm... Where did you get that information from? I always thought MJ was #1. After all, he released THE BEST SELLING ALBUM EVER (Thriller), Bad was the 2nd best selling album ever, and all the other ones broke a number of records in terms of sales. So I'm not sure but, I think he's ALREADY ranked #1!
Either way, he's the best!!!

This question has been posted so many times it belongs in a Beatles FAQ.
My answer: I really, honestly don't care. It's like comparing Apples to Ducks.
Regardless I will still love The Beatles music.

like i said when you asked this question earlier jay,yes i think he will!
it will be groundbreaking when he does,as it is MJ is already the most commercially successful african-american artist of all time with over 750 million records sold worldwide,i really hope he breaks the 1 billion mark because he would become only the 2nd solo artist, but the 1st african-american artist to sell over 1 billion records worldwide!
good luck MJ,we're all pulling for you!

i think it might i mean thriller has been the best selling album since the 80's and i think it always will be as long as people remember to keep your thoughts on his personal life separate from your thoughts on his music... because no matter what you thin k of him as a person he was still a great musician...
not to many people my age really listen to elvis anymore so i think he may be dropped from the top three pretty soon but a lot of people my age love mj and the beatles so i think it will be between them for a while... personally i know i will listen to mj until the day i die and my kids will grow up on his music too...

Well looking at his record sales from last year looks like he will hit that by his 1 year death if the sales stay up.
There is a album sale on his OFFICIAL website just for the 25th of June. I think it will happen.

I imagine it could happen.
Personally I like Michael Jackson more than Beatles. And Beatles are sort of old. So maybe Michael Jackson will surpass Beatles.

No, I don't think so. I hope he doesn't, because personally, I think The Beatles are amazing, and I want them to be at the number one spot. I have nothing against Michael Jackson, I like himself, too, but still...Beatles all the way. <3
Also, come on, Beatlemania lasted quite a while, so hopefully that helps them stay at the top.
