The bigger the tank, the easier it is to maintain in good condition. This is because the water quality is much more stable in a big tank than in a small tank. So get as big a tank as you can for your first tank, plus a small tank (maybe 10 gallons) to use as a hospital and quarantine tank.

A standard "55 Long" tank, which is the common 55-gallon tank, is four feet long and about 12 inches wide (probably 13 inches including the outside trim. It's about 19 to 20 inches high.

There are also other 55-gallon tank styles, with other measurements (mostly wider from front to back), so be sure to measure the tank and decide where to put it before you buy it.

How many fish you should get depends on what kind of fish and the related question of how big they will get.

Before getting any fish, it would be a good idea to post some of your stocking ideas here and ask for comments. You will probably have to ignore a few comments from jerks who say things like, "Sure, you can put 10 piranhas in a 55-gallon tank," but if you read the responses critically, you can learn a lot from them.

Cycle the 55gal tank first. this ought to take between a million and a pair of weeks. provided the fish are all small: Then introduce 0.5 the fish. Wait 2 weeks. Then introduce the remainder fish. in the event that they are super - merely a million or 2 at a time with 2 weeks inbetween each and each intro..

Please make sure that you read up on how to cycle your tank.. I've had very good luck using 1 big bottle of Nutrafin Cycle and then Biozyme to help provide stability after the Nutafin.. I also like to cycle with live fish.. Start off with a about 6 fish and then add 2 to 3 a week from there... Good luck!! This is a very rewarding hobby.. ummm make that Lifestyle!!

actually the bigger the tank the easier it is :) . 55 gallon is 48 inches long. and it depends what kind of fish you get. if you get tropical fish youll need a heater for them. if your just getting tropical fish like mollies, barbs, tetras, u could get a good bit because none of them get very big.

it will depend on how big the fish is.

if you buy the small fish it will goes a lot.

    its about 35.

if you buy the big fish it's about 7-8.

like 55 gallon is about the middle size of bucket.

If you are getting a Heater I perfer getting Bettas.

Or if you are not getting a heater like me I suggest buying a gold fish

Oranda if possible or if you are rich and getting a heatter I wil chose angel fish or

    Neon Terra.

get some tetras guppies or maybe silver dollars but one thing don't put tiger barbs with fish that have fancy tails or long cause tiger barbs like to nib on them
