Are Filipinos Asian or Pacific Islanders?

Hahah, it's the million-dollar question. Really, they should be Pacific Islander, for it's location, but they're considered Asian probably because the foods in the Philippines are very Asian (Mostly the rice) but many times (and probably in many jokes) filipinos are in their own categories. If this is for business (for a resume or something of the sort) there is usually a category for "Other" and a line after it.

Be it Asians or Pacific Islanders, we are all very proud to be Filipinos!

Tough call, but I wouldn't give them either tag. If I had to I would say Pacific Islanders (but barely) I was stationed there for a year and got to know them quite well. I believe they would resent either classification.

They are more closely related to Malayans and other ethnic groups in that area and have become a most unique blend like no other. Spanish rule over 400 years has left an indelible and unique imprint on their culture overlaid by 100 years ofd American culture. They are like no other.

the more politically-correct term would be Southeast Asian.
