SAMUEL "SAMMY" BYRD is the only man to have played in a MLB World Series and the Masters Golf Tournament.
BYRD was a reserve outfielder for the New York Yankees, and he appeared in one game of the 1932 MLB World Series. In 1932, the Yankees swept the Chicago Cubs. As a Yankee, he was known as "Babe Ruth's legs" because he often was a pinch-runner for Ruth near the end of Ruth's career.
BYRD finished third in the 1941 Masters and fourth in the 1942 Masters. He won six events on the Tour between 1942 and 1946. He advanced to the final of the 1945 PGA Championship Tournament where he lost 4 and 3 to Byron Nelson.
