Baby Vicks, has anyone heard of this?

I mentioned to my pediatrician that I was using Baby Vicks on my infant to help with his cough and congestion and she told me that it is actually bad for him and could cause pneumonia. Has anyone else ever heard this? The package says it is for children 3 months old and up but my doctor said never to use it on children under two. I know she is a very cautious pediatrician, which we usually like, but this seems a bit overboard. I've discarded it anyways just to be on the safe side.

Yes, I have read recently that Vicks and Baby Vicks have been associated with respiratory difficulties in young infants under two. I was surprised as I used Baby Vicks with my children, but now I know I'll be steering clear of it.

Hmm I have never heard of something like that. If it did cause pneumonia, then it would probably be recalled. I have used it on my son and it has worked great. Ne3ver got pneumonia from it

But if it is the specific brand of Baby Vicks, then maybe you could try Little Colds Baby Rub. It is basically the same thing though.

My son had RSV and my doctor had me use Baby Vicks and Saline Drops to relieve the symptoms. So I am sure that it is safe.

There isn't really anything you can give them other than those two things at such a young age.

my husband and i actually just asked our pediatrician the same question and he said it was safe as long as it's BABY vicks, and not to use a lot. if it caused pneumonia or anything associated it would have to say it on the label. some pediatricians are more cautious than others, so it's kinda up to the parents in the end.

I use Eukybear rub- my doctors specifically recommended that one for Alex when he was having breathing problems at 6 weeks old, I say doctors because I asked my doctor, the one we use for Alex and his fathers doctor (the one I trust most but because he doesn't have a good manner with female patients I use a different one)

I don't know if you can get it where you are but it's much more trusted than vicks here and it is designed specifically for young children. I actually like the smell better than that of Vicks baby balsam.

I think your pediatrician is to cautious. I use that with inphants I know. My mom say that to cure them by doing the following. When the take a shower iron a piece of cloth and put vicks on his/her chest. Then cover them up with many shirts and sweaters. If you need any more advice feel free to

I used that for my little one when she was 3 wks old.. cause of the weather changes she got a little cold.. I used the little tikes vicks rub just from my pinky right in the center of her chest sz of a nickle.. I also put on a hot shower and held her outside of the shower so she could breath in the steam for a few min.. Shes 8mo now and never got pneumonia or anything else..
