If you have "Gentlemen" why can't we have "Gentlewomen"?

    That's what "Lady" was for. A lady had all the aspects of a gentleman but in the feminine form. I use the past tense because I believe the tradition of "Ladies and Gentlemen" is mostly gone, if not extinct.
