Is Alice in Chains the most underrated band ever?

I'm shocked most people don't have consider them as one of the greats of all time. Layne Staley's voice was out of this world.

I feel that they are as well, okay maybe not the most underrated, but I don't think they are as appreciated or well known as they should be. However, maybe this is a good thing, as one of the things I love about them and Layne Staley, is that they never became this mainstream popular culture band, that was only interested in fame, as many 'singers' are these days. Instead, it made their music more real, and worthwhile, in a way. And the fact that they aren't rated enough, makes those who actually know of them appreciate them even more, because of their style, and Layne's unique voice. If this makes sense?

    Source(s): I love Layne Staley.

Yes! I was just listening to Dirt recently, and every song is a hit (or potential hit). It's quite rare to have a rock band that is that consistently good. And Layne Staley's voice is out of this world as you said. Plus, his lyrics are really something else!

They may be one of the most underrated bands ever. They are my absolute favourite, with Nirvana as a close second. But though Nirvana is great, everyone seems to obsess over them. If you listen to the lyrics and Layne's voice, it's incredible, but it seems like no one listens to them anymore. But since the death of Layne and the new singer, they will never be the same.

    I LOVE Layne!! And Alice!!

They're not exactly underrated, so much as, no one pays as much attention to them as to Nirvana, thank you previous answer-er. There's more inspiration in a Staley- Cantrell duet than if Kobain and Ozzy Osbourne did one (that would be interesting *strokes non-existent beard*)

Hell yes! One of my old friends used to live in Seattle and knew all the band personally. He was in a band that disbanded just as everyone signed to major labels.

It only proves how people don't have a clue to what is really good for them. How about some Alice?

I love Alice in chains!!!!!! A lot of the seattle bands were underrated. I loved the way they became creative with their names. Like Pearl Jam. that is so funny. and most people didn't even think about it. Sound Gardens drummer was one of the greatest drummers!

There are a lot of more deserving rock bands than G&R, or Van Halen (played on my local radio station at least 6 times a day each) which get no radio exposure at all... (such as Dio, or Savatage).

Sometimes life just isn't fair to those who out class, and out perform others.

No, I like them but I can think of a lot of artists that are far more underrated. Some examples would be Stone Roses, Elliott Smith, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, Bikini Kill, Jesus & Mary Chain, My Blood Valentine, Deerhunter.

I don't think so. Everyone is aware of their songs, and usually know them. I can think of a couple other bands that are possibly better than Alice in Chains and are extremely underrated.
