RPI is 25% team win percentage, 50% opponent win percentage, and 25% opponents' opponents win percentage. You would want to have a lower RPI rating.

    Ratings Percentage Index

Basically it comprises a teams winning percentage. (25 % of the formula), it's opponents winning percentage ( 50 %), and a team's opponents opponents winning percentage ( 25 %). The higher RPI the better. So lets say Kansas has an RPI of 0.6876 and Kentucky has an RPI of .6634 the Kansas has the better RPI, But in many newspapers and websites, it does not write out the whole RPI. Instead they write the RPI rank. So Kansas' RPI would say 1 and Kentucky's would say 2. Therefore Kansas has the better RPI

    Quite confusing isn't it

I would have to agree with that as well RPI is 25% team win percentage, 50% opponent win percentage, and 25% opponents' opponents win percentage. You would want to have a lower RPI rating.
