No. Having sex makes you not a virgin. Your vagina is not going to stay a gaping open hole if you put a tampon in, and it probably won't even tear your hymen considering a tampon is generally less wide then a penis.

What your mom might of meant was that if you use a tampon, it could stretch, or break your hymen, which is a part inside of your vagina that covers the entrance of the vagina. No, it does not make you lose your virginity. You will lose your virginity when and only when you have sex for the first time. It might be easier to wear tampons after you lose your virginity because, quite frankly, your vagina will be looser / "broken in". However, that does not mean you can't use one now.
