It varies according to the individual.
Some may get tachycardic, some bradycardic, other dysrhythmias may occur. It depends on the individual's heart.

Respiratory failure leads to cardiac failure and arrest because there is no oxygen being supplied to the heart muscle. In respiratory distress, tachycardia will occur to try to pump whatever oxygenated blood remains to the organs.
