What about Marshall as the Tigers field goal/conversion kicker? How can the Tigers improve in that area?

Benji is struggling with conversions and field goals from wide or near the touchline. Is it a matter of concentration, form or do the Tigers need to look at another option? Since the Tigers score a lot of their points on the wings, I fear that valuable points are going to be missed until the the conversion rate is raised. With the number of close matches the Tigers have played in the past few years, the team can't afford to leave those points on the field.

the tigers can improve by getting rid of literally the worst halves combo i the comp, which they own

    LOL @ Daniel P

Probably my bias side coming through, But I honestly reckon we have one of the BEST possible halves pairing in the comp. With Benji's superstar flare, who can score at any time, balanced by Moltzen's consistancy and work ethic, who can control a good kicking game, I reckon we are right up there, next to Melbourne for top spot IMO.

Farah is a heaps good field goal taker, ARGH brings back memories of I think 2008. Tigers lead wooden spooners Knights 24-12 with 10 minutes left. Benji, who has been injured all season, and Farah, who has kicked 5 FG in the season, both want to make it a 13 point game to secure a finals berth, as we are in 9th on for and against. So who takes the FG? Benji. He misses, the Knights score 2 converted tries and a penalty goal on the siren to win 26-24, keeping us out of the finals, and them avoiding the wooden spoon.

As for conversions, Benji can strike them well, just needs some practice with the ones which arn't on the sideline, but more 3/4 of the way to the sideline. Give him time, he can kick them well.

I agree that Benji doesn't do the kicking job too many favours, but someone actually has to have a talent for taking over the role. Kicking is not everyone's thing .. sometimes a player will fluke a close-in kick or a field goal, but the kicking role is really a specialist job.

The really great kickers step up, then put in hours of practice from all angles and distances, and even they have their misses. The Tigers have yet to find one, I think.

Yeah Canterbury have a similar problem and you can see how a good kicker can win games. Farrah may be an option but I think Benji can improve, he is a good kicker and Tigers may just need to invest in a kicking coach (or a better one) to help him out. It is worth the investment since he is essentially a Tiger for life so if they get it sorted they are in a good position for a while.

Firstly the point needs to be made that Brett Hodgson was first choice goal kicker and he was squeezed out at the end of the 2008 season. Marshall's performance at goal kicker can be directly attributed to a failure by the coaching staff to have a succession plan in place and the failure to have a specialist goal kicking coach. Humphreys changed all that by bringing in Jason Taylor to be a kicking coach. Personally I'd like to see Marshall given time to absorb Taylor's wealth of knowledge and experience.

If the Tigers need to look at other options, Farah, Lawrence, Flanagan, Moltzen and Tuqiri all have goal kicking experience and could slot in. All of these guys should be doing some extra goal kicking training with JT.

I like the concept of specialist coaches coming in to help out with specialist positions. Perhaps Humphreys could get Garry Jack on board to mentor Moltzen and Brown to help with their positioning and defensive work.

I think Farah could do it hey

Benji makes me anxious totally. He misses easy ones and gets the ones from the sideline which DOES MY HEAD IN

We need someone converting at about 70% at least or we will be losing by 1 or 2 points.

If Benj had converted 2 more on the weekend we could have been 30-22

Look at Ennis - if he had converted theirs the Dogs would have won right?? i think so anyway.

YeAh its a topic of contention for sure Skando

Yeah um every one struggles from the sideline, yes even with field goals...

    Who else can kick?

Tuquri? too early to put added pressure

    Farah? can he kick?

Benji has kicked in Kiwi games too, so he has kicked under pressure more than any other current tiger.

The season has only just started, lets hope for the Tigers sake that he kicks a few more this year.

why dont they have a kickoff at training like the broncos did.

tuqiri can kick, but id keep benji as the kicker

Give the GK duties to someone else. Benji should concerntrate on becoming a half-decent halfback.
