Don't be concerned with your teammate. You seem to have a reasonable handle on your own skills. It sounds like you can handle a bat but as you've mentioned you only rate yourself, "average" in the field. Depending on your defensive position it sounds like you need to put in extra work. Practice makes perfect, as the saying goes, so put in the time and it will work out for you. Good luck.

Maybe they don't think your skill set is strong enough. The scouts look at more than batting averages. They look at body type and potential for improvement. A lot of guys hit .400 in high school, but it takes more to excel at the next level.

My advice is that you should try to make your college team. Since there are a lot fewer college players, you would be more likely to attract a scout's attention if you stand out.

Maybe you need to ask yourself, "Am I the go-to guy on this team?". Are you a game maker? A lot of baseball players seem to have your abilities. If you want it bad enough you'll make yourself better. If not, the scouts won't be looking your way.

If they're scouting him and your'e on the same team the scouts can also see you. They don't look at one guy go to sleep when other people are batting. Play your best and stop whining...

"pretty good" and "average" don't get scouted.

What about speed? A lot of scouts won't even consider you if you can't run. They figure you could always learn how to be a better hitter or fielder but you can't teach somebody speed. Size is also another factor. It's harder to get noticed if you're 5'8 as opposed to 6'2".

You and a million other guys across the country are asking the same thing. You have to be "great" at something in order to be "scouted".

You need to be more than average and bat around 500-600 at this point.

Source(s): I scout along with my cousin. My cousin has Edgar right now. I keep mine quiet... Just take my % of profit... 15% to be exact...

i need to know more, height, postion, how many home runs etc... my teammate in 2003 hit over 500 and he only got looked at by college teams and not many d1 schools to be honest with you so i also have a similar story there was this kid i played against my whole life, summer league, h.s etc.. his name was sean obrien and he went to virginia tech and if you remember the yankees palyed an exhibition game against them a couple of years ago and he got drafted and i swear to you he wasn't anything special to me at all.
