White Smoke from 1999 Dodge Intrepid?

I recently purchased a 1999 dodge intrepid and since I purchased it I have seen a very small amount of white smoke coming from the tailpipe. It only does that while warming the car and when I have made a stop at either a stop sign or red light. It does not smoke while I am stopped but will smoke when I take off. The smoke then only last a second or two at that time. It looks to me like a white smoke. Since I have noticed the smoke the check engine light has appeared to come on. Went to auto parts store to have code read and that came out to be the EGR valve sensor. I have done some reading and now finds out these probably are the worse cars with the 2.7L engine. My engine runs very quiet and drives very smooth. I NEED HELP BADLY!!!! Can someone with mechanic experience help me please. And if you are a mechanic, can you please roughly give me an estimate of about how much this will cost me to fix. Thanks!!!

Update:

I have also seen a lil oil on ground in the garage like a quarter sixe not much.

Update 2:

and it have never ran hot are anything no milky oil no oil in coolant

Update 3:

It doesnt go away when hot it come out sometime not noticeable but i can see lil smoke

Sounds like you have a leaky head gasket and when your car sits, coolant vapors build up in your engine and are released when you rev up the engine

If there is only a small amount of smoke it is probably just condensation which is normal. This will be more pronounced in colder weather because the cold air causes more water vapor in the exhaust to condense and become visible.

This isn't likely a problem caused by a faulty EGR valve sensor because if there were a serious problem with that sensor the car probably wouldn't run smoothly at idle.

If the amount of white smoke is more than the amount that could typically be attributed to condensation you may have leaky head gasket. Keep an eye on the cars coolant level, coolant leaking into the cars cylinders through the head gasket burns causing white smoke. If the leak is serious enough you might notice a drop in coolant level after driving for awhile, you may also be able to smell the antifreeze burning in the exhaust. If the head gasket is your issue your looking at an expensive fix (think $700 to $800). Good luck.

Worn valve guides will give off BLUE (oil) smoke, WHITE smoke is steam, your problem sounds like a leaking head gasket. It doesn't sound like it's bad YET but it will not get any better with time without corrective action. Keep an eye on your coolant level because that's where the steam originates and the coolant level will drop over time. The 2.7 does not have a good reputation from what I read, sludge buildup seems to be the biggest problem with them. My father has a 2000 2.7 Intrepid with 80 couple thousand miles on it he bought new and no problems yet but who knows.

    Perfectly NORMAL!

Water is one of the normal products of any combustion.

It collects in the exhaust system when you turn the engine off.

It will steam off when you start it next.

As long as it goes away when hot, there is absolutely nothing at all wrong.

The only time a head gasket is a problem is when it only starts to steam AFTER it gets hot.

Since this goes away when hot, it is perfectly good.

And don't worry at all about the EGR either.

Cars never used to have an EGR in the past, and they lasted longer without it.

The EGR leaves deposits on the valve stems, and only causes trouble.

You may have to clean it in order to pass testing in some states, but until then, don't worry about it.

Replace the EGR valve, average cost of around $125.00 part only.

Two 10mm bolts hold it in and an electrical connection, do it your self

The smoke is just water (condensation), normal in every type of car,

even an electric car will puff a tiny bit of smoke as the dew gets warmed up and condenses

you sure it,s smoke or steam. you can tell because smoke will linger in the air and steam will disappear fast. it could be that there is just a seep in the head gasket.

Install a bottle of stop leak. It might help.
