Do i need to switch medicines?

I have been on celexa for about a month and a half now, i was on 20mg for 5 weeks then got upped to 40mg a week ago. I was prescribed this because of constant anxiety i was having the would send me into breakdowns at least once a day. I know antidepressants arent magic pills, especially for anxiety. I read posts about people with severe anxiety that claim that certain antidepressants take away almost all of their anxiety though. So far, my anxiety has gotten better, but i still get a bit anxious several times during the day. My question is, should i switch medicines or is this what the medicine is supposed to do.

Sometimes your anti-depressant that is for anxiety also is not enough to help you completely with anxiety. Many including myself take an antidepressant along with an anti-anxiety medication. This completely solves your anxiety problems and allows you to live free of stress and anxiety.

Given that your meds were only increased a week ago, I suggest you give it a couple of weeks for the increase in dosage to "kick in".

Antidepressants can take about 3 weeks before you start feeling the full benefit.

If by the end of the month you don't feel any better then I suggest you go back to your doctor, who may decide that a different medication would be more suited to you.

Give it more time...... it can take a couple of months for the full effects of a medication to be felt. Also don't expect it to get rid of ALL of your anxiety..... usually the goal is to reduce the anxiety to a manageable level. Therapy will also be helpful and should be used in conjunction with meds for the best result.
