At 298 K the value of Kc for the equilibrium represented by the balanced equation is 1.11 x 101. Calculate the value of Kp for the reverse reaction at the same temperature. Express answer in scientific notation.

Can somebody explain how to do this problem? Thank You

    Ok, for the reaction forward:

    A + B --> C

    Kc is for the forward reaction

    [C]/[A][B]

    If the reaction is reversed:

    C --> A + B

    [A][B]/[C]

    Therefore it can be stated:

    Kc reverse = 1/Kc (forward)

    However, since Kc and Kp are not equal to each other, the formula must be applied:

    Kp = Kc/RT

    Since Kc as you put it is ambiguous (it can either be 1.11x101; 1.11x10^1; etc) I will just outline the reaction you can insert the values

    For simplification, I am assuming the Kc is 1.11x10^1

    Rearranging the equation to solve for Kp (knowing R=8.314)

    Kp=(1.11x10^1)/(8.314 x 298K)

    Kp (forward) = 0.0048

    Kp (reverse) = 1/Kp (forward)

    =1/(0.0048)

    =2.232 x 10^2
