This is not going to be a very popular answer, but i was never popular anyway.

This is a 30 year old boat and (i presume) 30 year old motor. Rangers are a good quality boat, but 30 years IS 30 years. By now the hull has suffered osmosis (they all do), and wooden structure such as the stringers and floor supports may have started to deteriorate. The engine, no matter how well maintained, has reached the age where parts are getting scarce, and shops willing to service an engine of this vintage may be hard to find.

Nada Guides values the hull at around $1000 depending on the model (there where 3 model 178s that year), and the motor at $85-$100, which IS ridiculously low. I would value this package as follows:

    Boat.......$ 1200 - $1500

    Motor......$ 350 - $500

Trolling motor........? depends on the model and age

    Accessories........maybe add a couple of hundred $

If you have a serviceable trailer to add to the package, add $400 - $750

I did a quick search, and found 2 similar boat packages. One was a 1980 model 1750, no motor, very rough shape for $400. The other was a 79 model 178 with 1990 Merc 150hp and some accessories for $4900 (that'll never sell).

You can use this info as you see fit, but remember, the higher the price, the longer it'll take to sell.

I wouldn't let it go for less than $3,900. A dealer would likely ask $4,500.They're popular and it sounds like a solid boat. I'd check out Craig's List and see what they're going for.

    Good luck.
