NRL: Misconduct sackings and compensation?

Should clubs be compensated when a player sacked for misconduct signs with another club?

If so, who should compensate them? If the new club should pay, should these payments be counted under the salary cap?

hmmm very difficult subject this, its easy to say yes, but like you say, who should pay and how much, i think that the NRL needs to be more strict and back clubs that when they sack a player, other teams cant just ibis in their and pick the up straight away, like todd carney, canberra have lost out big time, i would like to see maybe for the 1st year, 50% of the players contract price, goes to the former club, and the club has to match that price as well, so say if carney got $100,000 for his first year, $50,000 of his money should go to the raiders and he keeps the other 50, then the rooster would have to pay the raiders $50,000 as well, just a thought but something along those lines might be successful, that way, it makes it a lot harder for those idiots to get back in and makes the reprocussions much more sever cos if a club wants them, they will have to pay up the big $'s

I don't think so. If a Club has had enough and lets a player go, then I don't know if they have any control over them from the moment they terminate the player's contract.

In a case such as $onny Bill's walkout, that's a different scenario, and a Club is entitled to ensure that a player jumping ship halfway through a season, without any real reason, can't sign on with another Club without the original Club receiving a transfer fee or some compensation for lost income.

Misconduct .. such as has happened with a few players recently .. is a different matter, and the Club which terminated the player's contract can't stop another Club from signing them if the salary cap permits it. They'd be taken to court about the player's earning potential, etc ... so much for the players being punished. It's the Clubs who miss out, because the misbehaving players are not mature enough to conduct themselves in a grown-up, professional manner.

Then someone like Carney or SBW gets sacked or ditches the club like Sonny did - what happens to the money in their contract? Does the player keep it or the club???

sorry I dont actually know this one

I think the clubs should be compensated though - thats why there are legal contracts - so that if someone breaches it then the other party hopefully can recoup

Not really. The club sacks him so they have terminated his employment. He then becomes a free agent. Perhaps it could be written in to new contracts that should a player be sacked for misconduct he not be allowed to play for another NRL club until the expiration of the original contract. This though could open up a real Pandora's Box. It could then become solicitors at dawn.

    Stuff comp for the player.

Someone pays me 150g plus and asks that i behave when i go too the pub??? DONE!

Good grief, my wife insists on this basic rule! And i am not on that sort of cash.

The player should be banned until all money is repaid too the club he let down!
