Recently updated to windows 7?

I hve a dell inspiron 6400 laptop, the other day I upgraded to windows 7. Ever since the brightness on my screen has gone dull (I can just about make out what's on the screen).

I've tried adjusting the brigtness through windows and the bios, i've also tried changing the screen res and colours. None of these had any effect.

Can anyone help?

If you didn't had this issue with the OS you previously had then:

    1. Try downloading a driver for your laptop (Vista drivers also work good)

    2. Go to Microsoft Support Page

If you upgraded to the windows 7 64 bit...it could be a driver compatibility issue as 7 is currently known for some hardware...*_*

Go into your bios and check to see if the screen brightness is 8 instead of other numbers , i know you said you already checked the bios but it should be 8 or your inverter could be bad, that is the cheapest to replace but if you have to replace the cable or the screen itself than that could be the issue

I just upgraded myself and first thing I did was check the video and audio driver installation CDs that came with the laptop when I bought it. There were two sets of drivers in the CD. one for Vista (don't get me started) and one for XP. I just wrote down the brand and version number and searched for newer versions that were compatible with 7. I had SIS video drivers and I adjust brightness and contrast from the SIS software itself than anywhere else.

That wouldn't be a Windows 7 issue. Your screen backlight is the problem.
