i'm using Avast! Free Antivirus 5.0. The new version has been released on their website. It s a freeware. You can register yourself on the avast website to recive the registration key . They provide timely updates (small in size, ie. In kb's. Which s usefull for people with limited internet plans ). It s fully legal n it generates a virus recovery database to report avast about the new viruses .
To detect n delete malwares on your comp use malware bytes . Another free software . N a powerfull tool to clean your comp of malwares. I use these softwares myself .

Here are my choices:
#1 – Avira AntiVir Personal Edition
Very Fast Scan Speeds
Detection rate for known viruses, Trojans, spyware, malware, etc. - 99.4%
For new and unknown malware etc. - 74%
It has some False Positives but I have never had a problem with them. I had rather have a 74% detection rate with a few FP’s than a 49% rate with less..
#2 – Avast! Free Anti virus 5.0
Very Fast Scan Speeds
Detection known - 98%
Detection Unknown - 53%
#3 – Microsoft Security Essentials
Slow Scan Speeds
Detection known - 90%
Detection Unknown - 56%
AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition deserves a special mention because it is so popular. I have dropped it from my recommended list because of slow scan speeds, high resource usage and internet slow down especially on single core machines under 2GHz.
Detection known - 94%
Detection Unknown - 49%

If a virus is already installed, it may create problems when installing antivirus. Actually some viruses block most well known antivirus products and even windows updates to resist cleaning. If you have got one of them, you really have a problem as formatting and new installation is probably the only solution.(Ugh I don't recommend it generally but it is better to start afresh sometimes.)

Avira Antivir.
I've used the free version for years and never had a single viral or malware problem.

Avast free or Microsoft Security Essentials are most recommended.

try using avast or avira and enforce the protection by installing threatfire to run alongside.dont forget to leave a firewall running as well.all are free by the way
