What's the best spot for a Caribbean vacation, bang-for-your-buck-wise?
The girlfriend and I are looking for a 5-7 day Caribbean excursion. There are so many options on the table we feel we are spreading ourselves too thin in our search, so we'd like to narrow. Here's what we are looking for (in order of importance):
1) A price tag under $1600 when all is said and done. (Flight, hotel, food/drink, activities...everything)
2) Beautiful, not-too-crowded beaches with clean, clear water. Access to secluded areas, and kid-free beaches would be great.
3) A variety of activities. While the greater part of this trip will be beach relaxing, we definitely want a couple days of adventure. Specifically: snorkeling/diving, jungle tours/hiking, rafting/tubing, ruins and landmarks, off-roading, fishing, etc, etc. I'm a nature boy, so I'm more interested in off-the-beaten-path stuff as opposed to cookie cutter tourist trap stuff.
We want nice amenities, but don't require 5 star. We are 31/26, so are down with a bit of nightlife, but aren't going crazy.
If anyone has suggestions on destinations, and maybe even resorts or regions within those destinations, we would greatly appreciate the advice. Also, recs on where NOT to go are also great.
Here is our current, broad list:
Costa Rica
Belize
Riviera Maya
Aruba
Puerto Rico
Bay Islands (Honduras)
Virgin Gorda (Little Dix Bay)
Turks and Caicos
Bahamas
US Virgin Islands
Jamaica
Dominican Republic
Trinidad/Tobago
Feel free to talk up or talk down these spots or add to the list. Thanks in advance!

wow...only $1600?! is that per person or all together? i don't know where your departure is from, if its from the west coast you will spend at least $1000 on plane tickets alone for the both of you, on a good day, to get to the caribbean. If its from the east coast it will be at least $800 on tickets. so that doesn't leave you very much money at all, especially when you take into account your requirements for the trip and all the extra activities you want to do. if the $1600 is per person you will be able to fulfill your requirements satisfactorily. when you travel to the caribbean all those extra activities you want to do become very expensive. if you want to do all-inclusive and just stay on the grounds of the resort the best bet to find someting for cheap is skyauction.com which allows you to bid on airfare, cruises, hotels, and packages for very low prices. you have a lot of options for countries you would like to visit, and in all reality, they are all in the caribbean and have the same climate and same water. you could probably narrow down your options by doing a search for the caribbean on their website and choose the best packages rates to find the country you would like to visit and then do some research as to the activites that pertain to that island. then you could ask a question on here about what are good things to do and places to go about a specific island, ex jamaica, and probably get a lot more and better information. your question is extremely broad, i think if you narrow it down to a specific island you will get better answers. good luck, and i hope you find something in your budget and have fun!

One place that I really like is Dreams Puerto Aventuras in Mexico. The resort is all-inclusive and located on a gorgeous beach. I think you will like this resort because it is a mix of relaxation and adventure. During the day you can lounge by the pool or the beach, or you can participate in snorkeling, the Euro-bungee, cooking lessons, sailing, windsurfing and much more. It’s also located near some great excursions like Xcaret ecological theme park, Xel-ha freshwater lagoons and Tulum Archeological site. As far as nightlife, the resort has a sports bar that is open until 2 am. The sports bar usually has live music or a DJ. Good luck with your decision!

well i can tell you from the places ive been...
PR is awesome its obviously more Americanized so you will feel more comfortable there...i stayed at La Concha in Condado San Juan... this hotel is not all inclusive but its party central all week and on the weekends... the hotel is amazing
http://www.laconcharesort.com/photo-gallery/index....
DR is awesome i stayed in punta cana barcelo....there is alot to do with in the hotel and its all inclusive... this is the hotel i stayed in it was really nice....
http://www.barcelo.com/BarceloHotels/en-GB/Hotels/...
CR is nice if ur into flora and fauna and the eco system... lots of mountains and hiking stuff to do there and national parks... there is a really cool crater... ive never been but my bf is there right now and thats what he said
Bahamas was also great... i stayed in freeport grand bahama at the raddison hotel
http://www.radisson.com/ourlucaya
there is this thing every wednesday and friday.... that the residents have i think its called a "fish cookout" or something... and all the tourist from all the other hotels go to it.... eat and drink the local foods and drink and party or hang out right by the beach... its very safe
Trinidad and Tobago... i know alot about trinidad and tobago..... its one of the best places to be...lol...
okay so il start on trinidad: best hotels to stay are hilton, marriott, or hyatt
http://www.hiltoncaribbean.com/index.php?destinati...
http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/poscy-courty...
http://www.trinidad.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.j...
trinidad doesnt have the best beaches so most people go to tobago for that because tobago's beaches are really really nice...there is snorkeling,, a nylon pool, and some forest stuff, and hiking biking trailing..lol...
a good place to stay in tobago would be plantations
http://www.tobagoplantations.com/
what can i say..... trinidad is more for partying, drinking, there is something to do every night, there is also alot of forest and mountain climbing and hiking to do in trinidad,,, water falls to see and fishing...
you can even go "down the islands" but would have to arrange with your hotel in trinidad for that... dont worry cuz every one who lives in trinidad knows what "down d islands" is... you can only get there by boat...(basically a bunch of islands off the coast of trinidad,,, some secluded and some have private housing)
Tobago is more for relaxing and chilling out....not really the party central....
to get from trinidad to tobago you can take a plane or a boat...
the plain prices i really cant remember range between 50- 100$ US... depending on when you book and the boat fee is half...
hope this helped.... and have fuNNNN where eva u go....
ohhh and be careful because there is crime every where and unfortunately developing countries have worse crime... so esp. seeing that your a tourist... just act natural and normal and dont wear alot of jewelery or bling.. or show off like u gots lots of $$$... cuz you'll be forced to share it..lol... or be relieved of most of it...

I do not believe that you will be able to find what you are looking for with your prrice range as it relates to going to one sialnd. I honestly belive that you would be better off going on a cruise. You get to see more than one of the islands you mentioned and some more for a good price. Who knows, proberbly may end up spending less than what you want to.
The below links are two sites that usually have good deals on cruses and other packages:

If you are still fixated on going to an island try the below link for good prices as well:
