Housebreaking dog help!?

My puppy is a Bichon and is now 10 months old. He has been using an indoor potty (ugodog) since he was 2 months old. For the past two weeks, I have been training him to go outside, and he has been doing great. I usually take him outside four times a day, about every six hours, and there were no mistakes. I sometimes take him out every eight hours and that is fine too. My problem is that occasionally after 6 or 7 hours when I know he can hold it, he just decides to pee on the floor. He does not bark or whine to let me know he has to go either except if he is in the crate (which I put him in at night).

How do I get him to not want to pee inside? It seems that everyone else's dog, even if they accidentally leave him for like 12 hours, will not go inside even if he needs to go. I want my dog to not want to go inside. Should I purposely leave him for 8 or 9 hours and then say no no no when he goes? Is that the only way?

Or how can I get him to bark or whine if he does need to go out? He is in the kitchen with a baby gate so it is not like he can sit by the door when he needs to go. And he is always by the gate so its not like I would know that he wants to go out just because he is there anyway.

It was the same way with my dog. She would hold it sometimes for absolutely preposterous amounts of time, and then other times she would just go. The trick is to not give them a chance to go inside. Take him out more like every four hours, but don't wake up at night. My pup is ten months at the moment also, and she is fine through the night. She usually needs to go about twenty minutes after:

--Playing fetch or going for a walk

--Waking up from a long nap

    --Eating

--Drinking a large amount of water

    --Chewing on a bone

I hope this helps! Definitely correct him if you catch him in the act of going. Thoroughly clean up all accidents, possibly using a white vinegar/water mixture.

By the way, my sister's dog had been perfectly house trained for three years. Then one day she forgot to take him out for about nine hours and he went in the basement. We're still having problems with it. So don't worry! Other dogs do it too.

My dog was never crated, always gated. We let him out on the hour EVERY painful hour when he was little. In the day, when we were gone, he used to pee twice and poo once all for us to clean up. Then it went to pee and poo once. Then just pee. Then rare pee. Then nothing. We just scolded him in the afternoon and he knew it was wrong. Try to catch him in the act too, which will give him a good scare. Next time, don't use that indoor pad thing, it just makes your job a million times harder. Also, praise him insanely if he downgrades what he does (from two pees to one, etc.) Good luck! ( Also, my pup is ten months now and goes once when he wakes up, once after his morning walk, once in the afternoon, once after his afternoon walk, and once before bed)

The keys to good housetraining include:

    * Using a crate to prevent accidents and make it more likely that your pup will eliminate when you take her outside; and

    * Rewarding your puppy handsomely whenever she does the right thing in the right place. Punishing your pup for mistakes can actually make housetraining harder.
