The real reason why Vegas won't play the clips properly is because you're trying to open a format that it doesn't support. You could for instance have an AVI file with DivX video and MP3 audio and have another AVI with Indeo video and PCM audio.

Now, what all those things are doesn't matter. You need to either convert your video to a format that Vegas will understand (losing some quality in the process) or update Vegas to be able to read your file.

To go with the conversion approach just try one of the billions of video conversion programs out there like the one the fellow above suggests. I've never heard of that particular one, so it's probably a bit ****, but I'm sure it'll get the job done.

To be able to take your existing clip into Vegas, you'll need to identify the sub-format of the video. This is called a codec. You'll need to identify which codec the video uses. I'd suggest a tool like G-Spot to be able to identify the format.

This website shows exactly how to use GSpot:

Chances are your video is in DivX or Xvid format and there is a way to import these into Vegas. Rather than detail all the steps here, I'll point you at this webpage which has detailed video explanations for the two different methods.

Now, I'll tell you the real reason you're having problems with this. Vegas is designed for the professional and semi-professional video editing market. It's for editing camera and tape footage. It's not designed to be able to take internet video or downloaded clips and edit them. So Vegas doesn't have built-in support for codecs like DivX. Whilst you can, with work, get most formats into Vegas for editing, it's not designed to do what you're trying to do with it.

Well in my experience the files either corupt or it's not in a readable format but it should be so im guessing it's just corupt. but if it will play on your camera maybe your just didnt import it right.

try searching for it on google or phone or send an email to sony they should be able to help easily.

    hope this helps.
