Canon eos 500 is a DSLR?

Not all EOS are DSLRs.

Hence, any EOS without a "D" in its name (1000D, 450D, 550D etc) is not a DSLR.

If you look at the first line in wikipedia, it goes as so:

"The Canon EOS (Electro-Optical System) autofocus 35 mm film and digital SLR camera system was introduced in 1987 with the Canon EOS 650 and is still in production as Canon's current dSLR system."

It says it right there "35mm film and digital SLR".

Yes the Canon EOS 500D (Digital Rebel T1i) is a DSLR and so is the newly aanounced Canon EOS 550D (Rebel T2i) a DSLR. Both are DSLR cameras that do still image photography and HD video.

Below I listed links about both cameras. Other brands are offering higher end digital cameras that can do HD video also (Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus, and Panasonic to name a few).

Canon has been making cameras since forever and all of their film SLR cameras since 1987 were also part of the EOS family.

It is true that dSLR cameras are all digital (that's what the d in dSLR stands for), and Canon even has a digital 500D, 50D, and 5D, but the EOS 500 is a plain old film SLR.
