are you expected to deposit the hotel room electronic door card everytime you go out of the hotel?

I travel a lot, NEVER give them the card. That is also why they give multiple cards if two people are staying in the room. I sometimes leave the key if it is attached to a big wooden thing, because it is awkward to carry (many places in Asia still use keys), but even then, not always.
It isn't really important, as those plastic key cards are written over each time, and don't have a very long life.

No, if you do that you nullify the whole idea of a unique key to every door. The plastic key you get is yours alone for the duration of your stay and becomes invalid once you check out. If you want to test this, try opening your door after your checkout.
The housekeeping staff have their own pass key which opens every door. The hotel therefore does not need your key for any reason.

The hotel people always have a master key with them. You should deposit it to them to meet their requirement though it is bit embarrassing every time asking it back because the staff men may change.

No! How the heck are you supposed to get back in everytime without bugging the desk. lmao You always carry it in your purse or pocket when you go out :)
If you lose it, they can charge you, but there's nothing wrong with taking it with you.
You seriously think they wanna deal with babysitting your card key?

no, you keep it with you until you check out, even if you keep it the code is erased as soon as the fee is paid
