The sound on my Mac isnt working?
I recently put in headphones into my MAC laptop. Now there is a red light coming from the hole and no sound will come out of the laptop. NEED HELP NOW PLLEEEEASE

it's because it's sending the sound through optics (that's why there's a red light).

Nope, all the answers above are wrong.
There is a chip in the headphone jack that tells the computer to turn off the laptop speakers when headphones have been plugged in. Sometimes this chip gets jammed and constantly tells the computer that there are headphones plugged in where they really are not. (The red light is the computer thinking there is something plugged in)
This is an easy fix. Just take a match stick (or something similar) and gently rub up and down the sides of the jack to un-jam the chip. When it has been un-jammed, the red light will go off and the speakers in the laptop will work. Be patient with this fix, some times its immediate, sometime it takes a while.
