how do get rid of stubborn stains on a clothes iron?

stains resulted from hot iron coming into brief contact with carpet.

    I always use a vinegar and baking soda paste. Then I wipe as much of the stain off as possible with a clean rag. Rinse, then repeat the process, only use a nylon sponge. Then I rinse it well when I finish.

    Two things to try. First, iron on a fabric softener sheet using a lower heat setting The fabric softener helps loosen the melted carpet. Then sprinkle some salt on a brown paper bag and "iron" the bag. Good luck!
