How to tell if my Marantz sr-4002 is compatible with my turntable?

I am currently in the market for a turntable, I have found the one I want, its a Harman Kardon T60. Now i believe there are pre-amped TT and un-amped TT. I also have read that I need a phono input? First of all I have no idea what that is or what it looks like. So does anyone out there with a Marantz sr-4002 have a Turntable hooked up? thanks for the help

    Hello

No the Marantz sr-4002 does not have a phonostage built in. You must have a phonostage as this amplifies the output of the cartridge and re-equalizes the recording from the record. All records go through a RIAA equalization because a full bandwidth signal cannot be recorded directly onto a record and the cartridge cannot track low bass information without miss-tracking.

Honestly the Harmon Kardon Turntable is not a very good turntable but then again it is a really cheap table. Suggest spending a bit more as you'll get alot better sound with a little bigger investment. If you do choose the Harmon Kardon as with any turntable its vital to choose the right cartridge for the type of tonearm. The Harmon Kardon has a low mass arm so you will need a high compliant cartridge. This is like matching the stiffness of shocks to the weight of a car. With out the right match of cartridge to arm the cartridge will not track properly it will distort or worse miss track badly.

If you can spend a bit more get a Rega made in england as they are easily the best buy in low price turntables. Phono cartridges with the Rega: Grado, Benz

Spend a little more you'll have something that you can grow with and will be much more enjoyable and better sounding.

Look in the back of your Marantz and look for an rca jack inputs that are label phone. If it has one then it will work with the turn table. Hope this will help you out.

If you have no phono input on your receiver get the pre-amped turntable and you can use that with your receiver.

From your manual, it appears that your receiver has no phono input.
