Can you help me find freeware for Win 95?

I am thinking of installing Win 95 on my EEEPC (earliest version) because I am sick of how slow it runs on XP, and have no idea how to install extra software into the Linux OS that it came with (or any other Linux OS).

I'm particularly looking for some reliable security freeware for Win 95 that still gets updates for the virus/malware database, etc.

Also looking for a good browser, html editor/webpage maker, ftp tool, and pdf reader, and other things for Win 95. Is it still possible to run Win 95 fairly securely and usefully? Obviously, on an EEPC with half gig RAM, 8 GB hard-drive (or was it 4GB - I forget) I'm not going to be using any big, complex programs anyway.

Thanks if you can point me in the right direction.

Update:

I've found these sites:

http://www.brothersoft.com/downloads/windows-95.ht...

http://www.completelyfreesoftware.com/du1_w95.html

http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Search/windows_...

But I still would appreciate someone experienced with Win 95 (in this day and age) to list the best freeware programs for it... thank you very much!

I am incline to agree with the last answer, your computer has probably gotten bogged down with Ad-ware and Spyware and/or Viruses. Please try and clean first before you decided to install a new OS.

As for an OS system, if you're not happy with XP, I suggest you try Ubuntu ( http://www.ubuntu.com/ ) because what makes you sure you'll be happy with a previous version of Windows. I know Ubuntu has it's own software. And since it isn't a major OS like Windows it's less likely to get attacked by viruses or malware. It's either that or get a Mac.

    You can use SpywareNoMore.

As we all know Computer hackers seeking financial gain rather than thrills or notoriety are increasingly flooding the Internet with malicious software code (spyware, adware, key loggers, trojans). They are infecting computers with highly sophisticated programs that record surfing habits, bank passwords and other key financial data and send them to crooks over the Internet. These programs can be hard to spot, disguised in downloads such as toolbars, search engines, browser accessories, screen savers and other seemingly helpful utilities.

SpyNoMore anti-spyware safeguards your identity and restores system performance through fast, smart and powerful spyware protection.

Try include keyword "old version" when searching.

I found interesting site like http://www.oldapps.com/ and http://www.oldversion.com/

They host both the oldest and newest version, such as firefox : http://www.oldapps.com/firefox.php

Find the version that will run for windows 95 (for example http://www.oldapps.com/internet_explorer.php, not all software are marked for their compatibility)

I think that windows 95 softwares are abandonware, so try include keyword "abandonware" when searching.

    I found http://www.mywindowspage.com/

    For reference : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abandonware

Well, i think that windows always try to retain compatibility for software for earlier windows. So, if it Windows 95, software from windows 3.x will be compatible.

I think choosing windows 98 is better than windows 95, because windows 98 is stable modification of windows 95.

I had EEE PC also with Windows XP inside, it was slow, and i'am sure it was because the processor was 900 MHz. Normal computers have clock between 1.8 - 2.4 GHz

Hope that helps. I'am using Windows 7, with earlier windows experience..
