Your Saturn probably has a bad ignition switch which seems to be a common problem with Saturns of this vintage. When the key is rotated from RUN to START there is a voltage signal sent to the BCM (body control module) that goes

through the PASSLOCK resistor in the ignition switch. This voltage signal may have an early

ignition switch bounce (when going from RUN to START) that the BCM interprets as a failure in the

PASSLOCK system and disables the starting circuit. there is also a TSB (technical service bulletin) on this problem! the switch will have to be replaced and a relearn procedure will have to be performed. :)

I HAVE FIGURED IT OUT PEOPLE !!!! I HAVE LITIRALY BUT SOMEWHAT SOLVED THE FROZEN PASS LOCK KEY ISSUE FOR THE SATURN ION !!! it is simply ...................HEAT !!! my 04 ion froze up in -30 it sat all damn day I had to hitchhike to work .....didn't like it one bit. got my dad to pull off the car plug protector which I couldn't get off . came home mom suggested I stick a heater in the car facing the key area . I did left it there for a hr ........its - 25 out right now ..........went out a hr later BAM she fired up ......yes you can cut the white wire and risk it ... then again , you can also simply try heat ! but for me I am going to have to wake up at 5 am and heat up the car again because it gets to -30 to 40 here in Yukon over night in the winters and I do not want to hitchhike to work again

Hi, You may possibly have a bad pick up coil that is opening up when getting hot,and closing after cooling. This will cause a problem like you describe.Good Luck
