Riedell Ice Skates -what is the best brand to buy for the price?

Hey, I'm looking to buy a pair of figure skates, and heard that either Riedell or Jackson were the best brands for the price.

I'm not sure which would be the best pair to buy -considering there are beginner, intermediate, etc, and I don't know the difference between them.

And also, there is the issue of sizing. How will I know if they are the right size pair, and if I bought them online, would I be able to send them back if they don't fit properly??

Thanks so much! :)

Never order skates online unless you have already been measured by a skate tech who can properly measure you for that particular brand of skate. Skates are supposed to fit like gloves and most online retailers won't let you return skates if they don't fit (or will charge you a huge restocking fee).

Ask around at your rink where the other skaters and coaches go to get their skates. They should be able to recommend someone to you. Many stores only carry a couple of brands so visit the shops. The store should have pairs for you to try on to see what fits best.

If you have narrow to medium feet, Riedell skates are better. Medium to wide feet tend to do better in Jacksons. If you are a beginner, which I assume you are, you'll want to stay in the lower price realm of either brand. Nothing is worse then when a beginner gets a new pair of expensive skates and then quits because the skates hurt and they can't do anything but trip. (I say this is the worst because it is completely avoidable.) Look into the Riedell 117RS and the 121RS; or in Jacksons- the Artiste or Classique.

    Good luck!

Avoid ordering skates online. Fit is crucial to choosing the right skate. Riedells and Jacksons are both good brands, but if they don't fit you the rest doesn't matter. Riedells tend to be shaped for more narrow feet. If the boot fits right you should have enough room to wiggle your toes but not too much so that your feet slide around, and not cause major discomfort. The best thing to do is to go to a skating pro shop. The people there should have experience and be able to personally answer your questions. They should know how to measure your feet, as well as recommend different types of boots and blades in accordance with your ability level. You can also ask coaches or other skaters at the rink for their opinions and tips.

    Good luck :)

Ask your coach about your level and whether you should get intermediate or beginner skates. My coach recommends certain skates for certain levels. You should always get a level up in skates, though, because you need room to improve.

Riedell tends to be sized for narrow to regular width, and Jackson tends to be regular to wide width.

What do you wear in rental skates? I wore a size 9 in rentals but they started getting small so my first figure skates were size 10. There should be sizing charts on the main website, too. There's not a whole lot of difference in between brands but ask people at the rink how their Riedells/Jackson's skates compared to the size of the rental skates, or maybe try on people's skates when you've determined which model to get.

Um, no longer partial to Johnson=Ultima, regardless of the undeniable fact that for novices they may well be sturdy! i does no longer get a great costly pair probable objective for around 2 hundred$ tops. i do unlike Riedell's the two. i've got been skating with Jackson's for 15 years and that i like them! Riedell's look very narrow the place Jackson's grant somewhat extra area! desire that helps!!
