I read 50m+ for beachcasting but anglers on Exmouth beach said cast about 15m into the surf, why?
Is it the particular time of year? that particular beach? If so explain why. They all seemed to be casting the same distance, wheras I thought you need at least 50m and upto 100m casting distance.

Different fish live in different places. At least off the beach in California, some fish actually live and feed right in or behind the breakers, eating the crabs and whatever tossed around by the waves, while others live in the calmer and/or deeper water farther out. If everyone was casting the same distance (and I assume catching fish), it's because whatever they were after was at that distance.
