Who should be the Giants #5 starter?
Both Wellemeyer and Pucetas are ripping it up during string training. Currently, Pucetas edges Wellemeyer out in the spring training stat department, but Wellemeyer has something that Pucetas doesn't, big league experience. And the Giants sent down Bumgardener, so he's not an option. It looks as though Wellemeyer is going to get the job, but I would like Pucetas to be the #5 starter, he shows a lot of promise. Then you could demote Wellemeyer to a long reliever, and what a fine long reliever he would be.

Todd Wellemeyer should be your #5 starter come April, he just had some really tough breaks in St. Louis last year. And I would most definitely always take the vet over the rookie. Bumgarner and Pucetas can go to AAA and pitch regularly in the rotation, and if Wellemeyer flops, send one of them up to the big league squad. Also, have the Giants considered signing Jarrod Washburn or Braden Looper? But I guess that would be a waste of money, since they have plenty of internal options anyway.

The Giants are in that position that many clubs wishes they could be and thats deciding between two good promising 5th starter. I woudl take Wellemeyer rite now jsut because like you said, the big legue experience. I feel that should merit him the job for the time being. Pucetas could be a long reliever for the mean time and get that chance to face big leaguers and gain that experience and we'll take it from there.
