headlights on 1987 ford escort?

both headlights are not turning on. parking lights and rear lights work, the fuse is good (tested it), bought a new headlight control switch (?), changed both bulbs for the headlights.

brights work when you keep the lever pulled on (as soon as you let go they turn off).

Any ideas??? possible the new headlight switch I bought was bad?

    Check connectors on the multi function switch,(turn signals, wipers, hi beams)
