Honda Accord 1999 Automatic, I need to know what each drive gear is for!! 1,2,D3,D4?
Obviously they are for driving, I just don't have the owners manual and would like to know which to use under what situation. Also, the cruise control button, how is this used in conjunction with the gears.
Thanks in advance!!!

1: low gear, used when going up/down steep hills, also good for getting traction in snow.
2: allows the transmission to shift only up to 2nd gear
D3: allows the transmission to shift only up to 3rd gear (best for around town driving)
D4: same as above, except adds overdrive gear, which is best for on the highway/freeway
Cruise control is best in D4, since you'd really only use cruise while at highway/freeway speeds.

Whatever is the highest gear on the vehicle ( probably D4 ) is the gear to select at all times - the other gears are used only in extremely rare occasions and are just shown on the gear selector. The cruise control is for use only on highways where the vehicle will be driven for extended periods of time at the same speed........owners manual MAY be available online or at a dealer

d4, means that your car will operate in all 4 forward gers,
d3, means will operate in 3rd, 2 nd and Ist
d2, just 2nd and first
d1, just in first.
in normal driving conditions just selsect d4, and the transmission does the rest,
the only time maybe you will need to use the other gear positions is if youre going up a steep hill and dont want car to change up ,
Cruise control is best only operated when in d4.

That has to be a drag! There has to be a sensor on the brake that allows it to shift. I don't have the specs, but it could be in the computer. You may be able to “trick” the switch by going around it.
