when i reset my ip adress on my computer does it mess up the network adapter?

so yeah. my computer is hooked up to linksys. and i was wondering if i go to start>control panel> network>network connection> local internet> propertise > internet protocol> and set up my ips and stuff does it reset my network adapter or no?

    Does it mess up the network adapter? No...at least I can't imagine that it does. You could probably go ahead and change the IP address of the adapter thousands of times in a row and it would most likely still work just fine (although maybe it would melt if you had the machine turned on for that long).

    That's just my assumption though. I guess I have no technical reason to back that claim up with.

    if you are set to dhcp then you go in and specify an IP it will do a partial reset on the adapter. not a full reset, a lot of the DNS cache and ARP cache should stay intact, and depending on the driver the link on the adaptor may or may not bounce. i've seen some stay up and some bounce, some even need to reboot the computer.

    Set router POWER OFF.

    -

    Reset modem: With a straightened paperclip, press RESET button momentarily.

    -

    Wait 60 secs.

    -

    Set router POWER ON.

    -

    Reset router: With a straightened paperclip, press RESET button momentarily.

    -

    Wait 60 secs.

    PC Command Line:

    -

    Click [Start] - Click [Run...] - enter: cmd, Click [OK]

    -

    At the prompt (c:\.....>) enter: ipconfig /release, press [ENTER]

    -

    At the prompt (c:\.....>) enter: ipconfig /renew, press [ENTER]

    -

    TEST: Open Web Browser: Connect to Internet.

    --

    If SUCCESS: Repeat Steps after PC Command Line on other PCs.

    -

    If NO SUCCESS:

    -

    At the prompt (c:\.....>) enter: ipconfig /all, press [ENTER]

    -

    Ensure DHCP Enabled == YES

    -

    If IP Address == 0.0.0.0 OR 169.254.0.0 to 169.254.255.255, connect Modem [wired] to Router [wired] to PC and perform ALL steps again.
