its normal. definately normal. If the skin right around the navel becomes red or tender, or there is a smelly discharge, it may be a sign of infection. You should get in touch with your doctor or nurse practitioner right away, because a true infection of the navel can be serious in an infant. Keep in mind that it's normal to note a little odor just as the cord is coming off, particularly when the cord becomes soft.

If healing is slow and the navel continues to be moist, the raw spot may become lumpy with what's called granulation tissue, but this is nothing to worry about. The doctor may apply a chemical called silver nitrate that will hasten drying and healing, and make the lumpiness go away.

If clothing pulls off the scab before the navel is fully healed, there may be a drop or two of blood. This small amount of bleeding is normal. However, if there is more blood, or if oozing persists for more than a few hours, talk with your child's doctor.

In rare cases, there will be a connection between the umbilical cord and the bladder or the bowel. If this happens, you might notice a bit of yellowish fluid leaking out, which is actually urine, or even a bit of bowel movement. These very uncommon problems are treatable, so just be sure to call your child's doctor.

NO VESELINE! u wanna let air circulate around it and let it heal as naturally as possible. Also Vaseline is sticky so bacteria, dust particles and other harmfull things could get stuck to it. i repeat...NO VASELINE! give it air. dont cover it with anything!

If you notice any of the following...

A reddened or inflamed cord area.

A swelling around your baby's navel.

Any discharge not corrected by cleaning and drying.

Active bleeding that does not settle quickly.

An odor from the cord not corrected by cleaning and drying.

Any sign that the area is painful for your baby.

If your baby is running a fever.

Before 'treating' your baby's cord with anything.

    see doctor.

Just see your child's doctor. he knows best. and good luck. and Best to you and your daughter. :)

It's nit normal and it only takes a baby losing one ounce of blood to die from it. You should call the hospital you birthed at and ask a nurse at the nursery and see what they say. My son's belly button did not bleed after loosing his umbilical cord.

My son's fell off when he was out of the hospital for five days, and this happened to him as well. It's totally normal,as long as the baby isn't losing a lot of blood. If it's just a bit of blood here and there it's totally normal. Just watch for foul smells and such, because those indicate infection. It's rare that it happens after the cord is already off though.

It's quite normal. Make sure you keep it dry. Avoid a bath until it dries up completely. If you do have to give your baby a bath, make sure you dry it well. The blood can be gently cleaned with a cotton bud soaked in saline solution. Also, make sure the diaper does not rub against it or cover it as the moisture will prevent it from drying up.

Yes, thats normal. Id put some Vaseline on it and when you put on her diaper, make sure the diaper is folded down - that way it isnt irritating it. (The clothing will still touch it, but that would be softer and less irritating then diaper.) If all else fails, give the doc office a call and speak to a nurse!

  • This is perfectly normal. My daughters did this for about a month after hers fell off. Her doctor said as long as its just a little blood and it doesnt gush then its normal. I let the air at it as much as possible and it finally healed. Just keep it clean and it should be fine.

Its normal for it to bleed a tad bit but if its steadily bleeding then I'd take her to the doctor.
