Is it normal for a 6 week old baby to sleep constantly?

She used to be awake for 4 hours in the morning & 4-5 hours before bed and now she only has like 1-2 hours in total of awake time in the day. She wakes up for feeds but falls asleep while eating and therefore doesn't eat as much. Is it normal for her to be so tired lately? She has a cold if that has anything to with it. Should I talk to the doctor about it?

Its usually quite normal for a baby that young to sleep so much, especially with a cold. I would watch her closely though for her symptoms and if she seems slightly lethargic to you or isn't taking in her usual amount (more is ok) of BM or formula then I would be concerned. I would call my Dr anyway just to be sure.

You are SO lucky! My little guy used to sleep like your little girl does now; wakes only to feed and fell asleep at the breast. He even used to sleep 7 hours straight through the night. Now, he's waking up every two hours to feed, and stays awake for 2 hours in between, and believe me, they are the LONGEST 2 hours during the night. Enjoy it while you can ;)

But honestly, everything sounds perfectly normal.

Totally normal. Talk to the dr if you're concerned, but there's no reason to be concerned. It's totally normal. my son was the same way. From birth to about two months,if not a bit longer, they can sleep for up to 22 hours a day!

Its normal. She's probably going through a growth spurt and with her having a cold she's probably just fighting it off. Its like when your sick, your tired and take a nap and feel a little better. Plus if your giving her tylenol that will make her sleep.

If she has a cold then she probably is resting because of it. Give ehr lots of medicine and in no time she'll be up and causing mischief
