Why does rye bread cost so much more than wheat bread?

Is rye more costly to produce?

    In Germany whole grain sour dough rye bread is standard. You get it for about 0,60 € about 0,80 USD. Wheat bread is more expensive, because there is less demand.

    Less rye flour is produced and far less rye bread is produced. Its a supply and demand thing
