Is health care reform really "Soviet Style tyranny"?

I've heard many conservatives say that the health care reform act is akin to soviet style tyranny.

Was making health care a right really the worst thing that the Soviet Union did to its people?

I mean, really, think about this

Of course not! Some ultraconservatives are saying this because they are scared, and they know the ONLY way to slow Dems down right now is to demonize everything they do. Its quite childish really.

the reason that conservatives say health care reform is soviet-like tyranny is because rights do not come from the Government, they come from God and this was established at the founding of our nation. If we disregard this foundational principle then we stand for nothing and our founding documents become weak and don't mean anything.

Soviets DON'T believe rights come from God and thus believe that the government issues rights to man. Since we are not Soviet Russia, we should not be adopting Soviet style reform that violates the constitution. Universal Health Care is unconstitutional because the federal government has no Constitutional authority to mandate it's citizens to purchase health care. This legislation in effect gives the Dept. of Health and Human Resources the authority to review your health insurance policy to determine if it is good enough. If they deem it inadequate, they are then authorized, through this legislation, to send the IRS to collect a fine from you. This goes for individuals and businesses alike although different fines apply to businesses.

This legislation also gives the federal government the authority to regulate profits of private insurers. Where in the constitution does it reserve the authority to do this? No where. High medical costs are not as a result of high profit margins from private insurers, but the expenses incurred from medical facilities. If the federal government would deregulate areas of medicine, medical facilities would not charge as much, and private insurers could provide cheaper health coverage. THIS is conservative reform that the liberals and progressives in Washington do not want you to listen to because it takes away their power.

having worked with 2 USSR co-workers , I have been told that it was a bad system, mostly the bribes you had to give to the doctors to " work you in" ,, the docs were more than happy to take a few extra rubles. ,, which was ( and am told continues to be) nothing new for the time in the Soviet Union,

they mostly complained to me about the wards ( no single rooms or even 2 to a room) and bribes and seemly ( as they look back on it ) lack of real modern care.

And the worst thing about the old Soviet Union as I have been told was the utter corruption of the system, with no personal responsibility for anything, needing the proper government paper work for anything and believe it or not the need to whisper because people may be listening

a lot of very smart people have immigrated to the US from Russia / Soviet Union

Soviets denied property, which the health care reform does not. It merely places a higher burden on taxpayers and puts stricter controls on private industry. The requirement to purchase health care is a violation of liberty.

Health care was a right before health care reform passed. There were no laws denying people health care. The word you're looking for is "entitlement". You have a right to own property--does that mean the government must tax others to purchase a home for you?

Yeah, like there were private health insurance providers in the Soviet Union.

Anyone who is going to go out and say our system is becoming more "Soviet" needs to check their sources, or perhaps themselves for mental-illness.

  • You are Violating ToS.

    How do you liek that?

I hear no knocking, nor helicopters.
