Solve each quadratic equation by factoring?

x^2 - x = 12

and

-x^2 = 4x + 4

    Before you can solve, you must set one side to zero.

    x^2 - x - 12 = 0

    Now think of factors of -12 that when added, give you -1. I'll leave that to you.

    0 = x^2 + 4x + 4

    Now think of factors of 4 that when added, give you 4. I'll leave that one to you also. Good luck!

    x^2-x-12=0

    (x+3)(x-4)

    x=-3 and x=4

    -x^2-4x-4=0

    x^2+4x+4

    (x+2)(x+2)

    There is a double root at -2.
