Pat Venditte is a switch pitcher for the Yankees. Can he pitch with either arm to the same hitter?
I know he has to let the umpire know which arm he is going to use before he pitches to the hitter, but can he change arms between each pitch?

No he cannot. When he was coming up this rules problem came to the forefront in a game in the NY-Penn (Short A) League. He and the hitter, who was a switch hitter kept changing everything. The umpires made a decision to have the pitcher declare first and treat it like a new pitcher, who must complete the hitter's time at bat or record an out on the bases before he can be substituted for.
The NAPBL who governs the minors agreedwith the philospohy and oncorporated that into an official interpretation and MLB has since adopted the same interpretation.

They had to make special rules just for him, its called the Venditte rules, basically he has to anounce which arm he is pitching with before he pitches by holding up whichever arm he is going to throw with. He can switch arms once per at bat...but the rule says he can only do this once he has two strikes. Kinda of a funky rule...& i think since he is the only one in baseball that can do this he should have the advantage & should make a switch hitter hit from the wrong side, i dont care if this kid was a red sox or yankee or any other team he should have the advantage becuase he is so rare!

Did you see the video from last year when he was pitching in the minors? The other team had a switch hitter at the plate. Venditte would be ready to pitch with one hand, then the hitter would move to the other side of the plate. He would get ready to pitch from the other side, and the hitter would move again. It was hilarious!

The official rule is that a switch hitter or pitcher can switch sides only once per at bat. So he can't switch with every pitch, just once in an at bat.

yes he has his own special pat venditte rules. u can change arms only after a pitch has been dealt. the same goes for the batter but the pitcher must first declare which arm he throws with.

No, he has to Pitch the same hand to a batter, but he can switch to the other hand when the next batter comes to the plate.
