I have two suggestions. I have used WallyPark. They aren’t the cheapest, but provide a good service. Their website can be found here. You can join the WallyClub if you need to park frequently at a WallyPark served airport (Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles, Philadelphia or Seattle). You get discounts and some other extra services. Because I was flying out of LAX quite a bit, I did join and saved some dollars. The thing I liked about WallyPark was its location. It was easy to reach from the 105 Freeway. It is also easy to get there from the 405. You can see a map and directions here. If you are willing to park on the roof (there are several covered floors to choose from) there are discounts for that. Within minutes of parking a shuttle will pick you up and take you to your terminal. They have lots of shuttles, so it is easy to get a ride back upon your return.
The other thing we have done is spend the night before our flight at the El Segundo Courtyard (a Marriott property). They have a stay and fly package that includes two weeks of free parking in their hotel lot if you stay for one night with them. The parking areas are outdoors but lighted. I parked there about five times and didn’t have any problems. They have a free shuttle to and from the airport for your convenience. We have a Marriott points program and credit card. On occassion we have used our points to pay for the room and get the parking free. Not a bad deal. You can check with other local hotels to see if they have a similar program.
Have a great trip. Fly hight and fast. -- Margy

I travel ALL the time and have tried a bunch of the parking lots.
The Parking Spot is by FAR the best. I use the century location.
Valet is a couple of dollars more per day, but I love having my car wait right in front when I get there. Self-service is fine too. The location is secure. The shuttle staff is very helpful and nice (I've parked 100+ times and had bad service a handful; if you complain for a real reason they will give you a discount). Their shuttles come around the locations constantly even if you are going at an unusal time; I've parked other places where I have had to wait 45+mins for a shuttle and finally decided to take a cab
AAA will give you a 20% off coupon. I also think their website has coupon offers.
Enjoy your trip.
FYI - I wouldn't do Amtrak. It will take you to downtown and then you have to take a bus to LAX. Downtown SD to LAX on non-rush hour will be 2.5 hours. Taking the train would make it more than 4.5 hours.

No matter which lot I've used I've had good service.
Check it out and I feel confident that whatever parking lot you choose you'll get good service. I personally don't like to park far out in distant lots but that's a personal preference. The shuttles that pick up the lots move through the airport constantly.

The Parking Spot has two locations, one on Century Blvd, the other on Sepulveda Blvd, with both Valet and self park options. They offer corporate discounts for many companies and have frequent shuttles going around the airport. Another option that I have used is the Hilton hotel valet parking with rates comarable to the Parking spot and free parking for a specified time if you stay at the hotel. If, however, you are going out of terminal 1, Soutwest airlines, there is a big outdoor lot on Century immediately before you enter the airport, from which it is a very short walk to Terminal 1.

Funny you should ask - we just parked at LAX for the first time last week. We booked at Johnny Park through http://www.airportparkingreservations.com/
It was quite cheap - about $6 a day - and getting to and from the terminal was by convenient shuttle.

We would certainly use them again.

Are you spending your vacation at the airport? That's odd. Now, if you're flying somewhere from LAX, maybe you could take the Amtrak "Surfliner" train up from San Diego to LA, and catch the local buses to get to the airport. Leave the car at home, unless you really need it.

As you are driving to the departures, you will see the sign, a few blocks after Carl's Jr. It's on your right.
Parking is easy and ample, the prices are competitive (I use them for business and personal), and the vans are always around.
