NRL: Is Beau Ryan the answer?

Despite his hilarious off field antics, normally I don't have a lot of time for Ryan. He has been diabolical in attack on the wing, forcing Blake Ayshford to go it alone when normally you'd expect the centre to setup his outside man. Last week when the team lists were named, the media reports had Moltzen at halfback (YAY!) and Mitch Brown at fullback. When the game started however, Brown was on the wing and Beau Ryan was playing fullback. I thought he had a solid match, but I was shocked to find out that he made 248 metres. This is more than any other player in any game last round.

I've been pretty vocal about Moltzen needing to get out of the #1 jersey and into the #7, but with Gallant gone north, I wasn't sure who should be fullback. After his performance last week, I think Ryan could be the answer.

What do you reckon?

DUDE! I was like, wowed. Wowed alot. Ryan's performance was SO solid. It wasn't Billy Slater / Jarryd Hayne diabolical, but it was so smooth and controlled, and he didn't make mistakes. Moltzen NEEDS to play halfback, and when Tuiaki comes back, Beau will have to make way. With the performance he showed against Parramatta, I'm ready to name him fullback against the Raiders. At times he seemed abit slow returning the ball, but he can fix that. He made a few dummy half runs, going for 10, 15, and once 20 metres. He was cramping up towards the end of the game, and it was nice to see him tough it out for the last 20 minutes. I was always going to fear that we would have to drop the bloke when Tuiaki returned, but that shouldn't be a worry no more after how he played. For who plays with who inside them will probably still be determined, but you get the idea for the line-up:

    1. Ryan

    2. Tuqiri

    3. Ayshford

    4. Lawrence

    5. Tuiaki

    6. Marshall

    7. Moltzen

Totally agree, he IS the answer.

I was wondering what happened to the lineup when I saw the listing and then the game. Ryan did on heck of a job and I think he would do a good job in anyone of three positions: Center, Wing or Fullback. I would agree that he be kept a fullback unless something happens to force a change.

One thing the changes point out, is how fortunate the Tigers are to have a number of players able to play very well at a number of positions. Hum - wonder if he can kick conversions?

I think he's a great choice, and I didn't have a problem with his game last weekend. Those metres stats are pretty good too .. maybe I'm glad I picked him as my try-scorer for this week's game (and a few hours before you wrote this!).

I just hope that he gets the chance to settle into the position, sometimes the players are moved around too quickly .. he could be just what's needed at fullback here.

Exactly and YES and I agree 100% with DUDE.

Im sweet that Brown is on the wing too and super happy that it means when Tuiaki is fit he can slot back in on the left wing and Tuqiri can keep his wing spot maybe on the right and KEEP MOLTZEN AT 7!!!!!

We need a solid full back and I can see Beau taking it seriously. If he does with Tim at 7 we will be hard to beat and play more consistent footy

As much as I like Beau, I've never really rated him as player. I saw him at school and there were better. I haven't seen him at fullback, so hopefully this will be the spot for him. We've seen it before, you move the player to a new position and they're on fire.

Can't wait to watch him this weekend.

Lets hope so but whoever they choose needs a decent go at the position. Chopping and changing fullbacks will only disjoint the backline. I think he has the ability to be "the answer" but I'd like to see him play a few more solid games first.

Dude: That's a pretty awesome backline!

Yes! He is a great player and needs to be taken more seriously.
