How do you get a tranny out of a 2000 Chevy Silverado?
Hi ya'll! Well my dear grandson is having problems with his big ole Silverado truck. He had the thing at his friends house yesterday and his friend put a new tranny in it. He got upset when he went to get the truck because he said it was the wrong kind of tranny. He had lots of problems driving it home because the tranny stick kept poking him in the leg and distracting him. He nearly got in an accident! He said it's really loud and makes a lot of strange, deep noises. He parked the darn thing down the street and really needs help getting it out. I looked out the window and the whole truck is shaking around! The tranny must have really messed up his poor Silverado! I really hope he can get this thing fixed because it's his only car. There were a lots of people outside staring at the car and taking pictures so maybe one of thems can help.
Any help would be great!
Thanks and blesses!!

I love do it yourselfers. You people give me lots of good work at the dealership. All I can say is keep up the good work. We appreciate your lack of knowing what your doing.
My guess is you got 2 clowns who have no idea what they are doing, either get the same 2 clowns to undo what they did or tow it to the dealership or repair shop & have them fix it

Diagnostic questions:
I presume if the shifter poked him in the leg it is a manual. If the shifter was not changed, I would first check the linkage, perhaps a bushing came out of a piece of linkage which contributed to sloppy shifting.
Other things to check. I am not a Chevy guy, but would presume they use slave cylinders and diaphragm clutches. Perhaps there is air in the hydraulic lines.
Was a new clutch installed, and was the flywheel resurfaced, that could provide chatter. Also was the throwout bearing changed.
Was the clutch plate properly torqued to the flywheel? I had a loose bolt on a flexplate give me trouble once.
A shaking truck is not a function of a manual transmission unless its mount is shot, and that only shows at higher speeds.

Yeah, I've had this problem before. I was on a bus and a tranny couldn't be removed by the usual methods (sticks, fire, hedgehogs, napalm covered monkeys).
Anyway, we finally managed to get the tranny out by sending Chuck Norris in with a plastic bag and a spork.
Good luck with that!

If he got poked with at tranny stick you may need to get him some counseling. I know I'll do anything to avoid being poked with a tranny stick.

Well first you get a really big hammer. Then you take the hammer and you go " BANG BANG BANG" on this so called tranny( is that a transvestite? ) and bada bing bada boom the thing is on fire lying on the ground. I also suggsest you get some saftey glasses because the " tranny " could "squirt oil" on you.

The pinging is usually timing is set to high, either retard it or use better gas! Find another mechanic! Do you park on a hill? they will leak out the tailshaft of the transmission if you do and a worn 3.00 seal

Unless your grandson is planning on going down on any dirt back roads he shouldn't have any problems with the current funky tranny. I suggest he try a liberal application of some lube in order to keep the strange noises down to a whimper.
