how long does it take for IRS to process tax refund?

After waiting 6 weeks, we finally find out that they recieved our papers. the first time i checked the status it said we should recieve our check by april 20... this morning they said may 4th. why would they change dates? could we possibly get them sooner?!

    Possibly. Not likely.

    The IRS changed the date to try to give you a more accurate idea of when you can expect your refund. They have been having issues with getting refunds out as quickly as last year (lots of people this year claiming First Time Homebuyers and filing paper returns because of that... it's slowed things down), so they've been altering estimated refund dates to reflect that.

    I am coming to find out the same thing. Yesterday my refund date was April 20th and when I came online to check this morning it said May 4th. This sucks. I am going to call the IRS.. here is a number to call, maybe they can help.
