Australian Horse racers.. Couple questions?

How come the 2 tracks I bet on run in opposite directions? Track A & B

What does it mean by "Dead" track?

Do you think jockeys there are really better than here? US

How come so much early money messing around?

Do you need someone to come down there and mow the infield?

    The states control racing and everything about it so New South Wales(Randwick, Rosehill Gardens etc) race clockwise and Victoria(Flemington, Caulfield, Money Valley) race anti clockwise. Makes it quite difficult as you don't know if a NSW horse will handle the Victorian way or vice versa till they try it.

    Dead track mean very slightly rain effected. our ratings are:

    Fast = Rock Hard

    Good

    dead = really good racing surface where it's not hard enough to cause injury and not soft enough to make horses slip and slide all over the place.

    Slow

    Heavy = Bog Track

    I don't think they are better or worse. Definitely better in Aus Racing conditions but it's the same with US Jocks in their conditions

    We're just mad keen punters and the TAB(tote) uses every opportunity to get our money. So they offer a lot of the better races as advanced betting (with better prices but also the chance of your horse not even making it to the barrier) Best thing is to wait for the actual odds to go up on the day and bet from there

    Please do mate!! Just make sure you come during the Spring Carnival in Melbourne as it's absolutely fantastic. And if you can be there for the 1st Tuesday in November for the Melbourne Cup even better as it's definitely one of the great races on the world racing calander

    1. Depends on the horse. If you didn't want to ride and just wanted a companion you would probably go the pony route or rescue a horse that is not fit for riding. 2. Yes, it is called gelding with horses though. It's actually just as common as it is in dogs and cats. Stallions are a pain to maintain and own without somehow getting into trouble.
