Older computers had one CPU that did all of the processing and thinking of a computer. People found that by merging 2 CPUs into one piece, that they could make the computer faster. When they did this, each of the CPUs is called a core (This is a generalization, but the idea is correct)

core 2 duo is a second generation dual core processor. So it's basically the same thing but newer and more effective.
A core is a processor. So if you remember those good old Intel Pentium processors so a dual core is basically 2 processors, quad is 4 processors working at the same time. Doesn't give more speed directly but allows the processor to perform several tasks at once.

Core 2 Duo is a Dual Core. Depending on how they are worded, it might be to show the architectural difference between the 2 CPU.

A core means a processor which is bundelled in the processor pack i. e. a dual core will have 2 processors in a processor pack whereas a qual core has 4.

core2 duo is the latest virsion of dual core processor pack launched by Intel(R)..

"Dual Core" is a chip that has two processing cores build into it. "Core2Duo" is the brand name of one of the many "dual core" processors on the market.
