Can someone help explain this quote to me?

the universe contains the things you need for an apple pie, so to be truly made from scratch you must create the universe

The above poster has a good point, but I think he was also making a point about the relative scope of human endeavour against the backdrop of the infinity of the universe.

I mean, the classic response to making an apple pie from scratch: Peel and core some apples, cut into slices, mix up dough for a pie crust, assemble the pie and bake, right?

When you consider that, it's just a tiny fraction of the kind of change the universe has had to undergo to create something as complex as an apple (or a person, for that matter).

I think that, personally, it means that sometimes some of the simplest sounding things that people think they can easily do turn out to be the hardest, but maybe i'm interpreting to far into this!
